I don’t have any fun personal updates this time around as I’ve been hunkered down pounding out the final chapters of Cracked Palace.
Outside of the few standalone books I’ve worked on, I’ve yet to have to deal with actually completing a series, which is why I’m doing with this book and I gotta tell you… there are a lot of emotions at play. Back in 2019, months before COVID hit, I was working away on a new series, one that I knew would resonate with plenty of readers.
The idea of a ragtag crew a la Firefly, mixed with some of my own life experiences and my love for mind-bending fiction originally inspired the Trystero series. I grew up in New England, in a place that heavily influenced Lovecraft and while I have a lot of problems with Lovecraft’s work, a lot of the ways people were able to iterate on some ideas within the Cthulhu mythos interested me far more than Lovecraft himself. Remembering my favorite Mass Effect side quest, Leviathan, didn’t hurt, either.
All of this, along with my experiences as an artist in college and what I’d been through as a new father helped to bring everything together.
The fact that I’m on book six of this series really blows me away, as does the fact that Broken Ascension was released on January 28, 2020, almost three years ago. The crew of the Trystero have become quite special to me in this time, as I hope they have for you as well. As I round out the last few chapters in this week before I ship it off to my editor, I hope you’ve enjoyed these characters and their story as much as I have had in writing it for you.
If you haven’t started yet, no worries, the ebook of Broken Ascension is still free for right now, which may change after I have released the complete series.
